McGill was born on 11 July 1950 in San Antonio, Texas, son of artist Adriel Rose, and real estate and insurance agent Woodrow Wilson McGill. Likewise, he graduated with a degree in drama from Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio’s northeastern part and from the University of Texas at Austin. Similarly, he is related to A.R. In many films, McGill appeared, perhaps his most well-known role is “D-Day” in the 1978 comedy-classic National Lampoon’s Animal House, a role McGill was desperate to take at the time, remembering his days as a young unemployed actor sitting in a casting office in New York. Similarly, he played the William Tell Overture in Animal House by drumming his fingertips over his windpipe. Besides, in MacGyver he duplicated this talent, playing “Rock-The-Cradle” to lull a child to sleep in his care.

In the 3rd season, Babylon 5 episode “Severed Dreams” (who won the 1997 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation) McGill also played Major Ed Ryan. Babylon 5 maker J. Michael Straczynski originally intended for Everett McGill to play the role. However he did not know McGill’s first name, so when he asked to have McGill contacted, Straczynski was asked if he meant Bruce McGill, to which he replied yes. Even though it became apparent to Straczynski when Bruce McGill met him to discuss the role that this wasn’t the McGill Straczynski had in mind, Straczynski decided to use him instead.
In the 2016 U.S. election, during his campaign, McGill narrated several commercials for Donald Trump. In February 2017, he would be a guest star as a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War in the NCIS series. The series was American action police procedural television.
