Garrett McNamara is an American professional wave surfer popular for breaking the Guinness world record for surfing the largest wave ever. He performed the record-breaking wave surf at Nazare, Portugal in spite of huge frightening waves and glaciers in Alaska. Initially, before he started professional wave surfing, he did train himself for a year to handle waves and surfing in dangerous situations. After the training, in 2002 McNamara along with his surfing partner, ‘Rodrigo Resende’ participated in the Tow Surfing World Cup on the island of Maui. The duo won the competition and got a cash prize of $70,000 USD.
In late 2002, several surf magazines around the world featured McNamara on their cover page. He became very popular after his pictures on Teahupo’o’s coast came out.

McNamara was born to his parents Malia McNamara and Laurence McNamara on 10 August 1967 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
