The late athlete was born on 14 February 1973 as Stephen LaTreal McNair in a small tin-roofed house in Mount Olive, Mississippi, the USA. He had not provided information on his parents or early years. He further grew up along with his four brothers: Fred, Jason, Michael, and Tim. Regarding his education, he attended Mount Olive High School where he played in different sports. In the 1991 MLB amateur draft, he selected by the Seattle Mariners drafted in the 35th round.

He chose over Alcom State University to the University of Florida in wanting to play as a quarterback. During that time, he became a member of the fraternity Omega Psi Phi. His professional football career started in the year 1995 when the Houston Oilers selected him the overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft by the new head coach Jeff Fisher.

In the 1999 season, the Oilers changed officially its name to Titans and diagnosed with an inflamed disk following the Titans; win over Cincinnati Bengals and needed surgery. During the 2000-2001 seasons, he didn’t start the first of two annual games because of a sternum injury. In the 2003 season, he became the youngest player in NFL history to pass for 20,000 yards and run for 3,000 yards.

He joined the Baltimore Ravens after Titans released him in June 2006. Further, he played two seasons with the team and announced his retirements. Further, he had also two sons: Steve LaTreal McNair, Jr. and Steven O’Brian McNair with two other women before his marriage to Mechelle.

Death:

He was shot multiple gunshots, two shots in the body, twice in the head, and only one shot coming closer from the three feet. During that time, his body along with the body of a young woman named Sahel ‘Jenni’ Kazemi found in a rented condominium rented by him in downtown Nashville on 4 July 2009. They were reported to involve romantically and said that the duo exchanged the message proclaiming their love on the day of the shooting. His death ruled as a murder-suicide with Kazemi as the perpetrator and McNair as the victim.

At the time of his death, he didn’t leave a last will or testament, and later his assets frozen pending probate of his estate. Following that, Mechelle appealed to the court for asking to unfroze at least a portion of the assets and give a portion of its to his children’s care and expenses. The court approved her request and the four children received $500 thousand each.
