Nicknamed Smoke, Anthony Wayne Stewart is an American semi-retired professional stock car racing driver and current NASCAR team owner. He is a three-time driver champion in the NASCAR Cup Series, winning championships in 2002, 2005 and 2011. He has won the NASCAR Cup titles as a team owner with himself in 2011 and with Kevin Harvick as drivers in 2014. Stewart has won titles in Indy, Midget, Sprint, and USAC Silver Crown cars throughout his racing career. He is the first driver in history to win both an IndyCar and a NASCAR championship.

Stewart had intended to step up to the Winston Cup Series in 1997 driving for Ranier-Walsh Racing after working with the team part-time during the 1996 NASCAR Busch Series season. But, when Stewart realized he was not ready for the transfer, the deal fell through.
