Valerie Jarrett is an Iranian-American businesswoman and former government official. She had served the U.S. President Barack Obama as the senior advisor. Further, from 2009 to 2017, she became an assistant to the president for public engagement and intergovernmental affairs. The businesswoman was born on born 14 November 1956, in Shiraz, Iran. She was born to American parents during the Pahlavi dynasty. Her father was a pathologist and geneticist. In 1956, he used to run a hospital for children in Shiraz where American physicians and agricultural experts helped them in health and farming. At the age of five, her family move to London for a year, then settled in Chicago in 1963. In addition, her parents were both European and African-American descent.
Regarding her education, she graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon in 1974. Then she joined Stanford University and graduated in 1978 with a BA degree in psychology. In 1981, she received a Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School. Additionally, she got the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from Colby College.

She started her career in politics in the year 1987 working for Mayor Harold Washington in Chicago. After three years, she became deputy chief to staff for Mayor Richard Daley and in 1991 to Michelle Robinson, then engaged to work with Barack Obama. Later from 1992 through 1995, she served as commissioner of the department of planning and development and went on to become chairwoman of the Chicago Transit Board from 1995 to 2005.
She served as the CEO of the Habitat Company until working with the Obama Administrate. Jarrett was a member of the board of Chicago Stock Exchange from 2000 and promoted as chairman in 2004 until 2007. Meanwhile, she was also a member of the board of trustees from 1996 to 2009 at the University of Chicago.

But previously, she was married to William Robert Jarrett, son of Chicago Sun-Times reporter Vernon Jarrett. They married in 1983 and began to live separately in 1987. Finally, they divorced in 1988, however, they together had welcomed one daughter, Laura Jarrett.
Talking about William, he was the newly appointed director of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jackson Park Hospital. Sadly, the doctor passed away with a sudden cardiac arrest at 40 years old, in the year 1993. In another hand, her daughter works for CNN as an attorney and reporter and daughter-in-law of the Canadian politician Bas Balkissoon.
