Jerry Demings is an American politician and former law enforcement, officer. He currently serves as the Mayor of Orange County, Florida since 2018. From 2009 to 2018, he previously served as Sheriff of Orange County in Florida. He later served as Chief of the Orlando Police Department and Director of Public Safety for Orange County, Florida.
Furthermore, many people recognize him as the husband of the U.S. Representative from Florida’s 10th congressional district, Val Demings. Jerry Demings: Bio, Family, Career
The political personality was born on 12 June 1959 in Orlando, Florida, the United States of America. He is the youngest child to five children of his parents whose names are not available in the media. Further, his father worked as a taxi driver while his mother, a homemaker.
Out of his four older siblings, one of his brothers passed away due to heroin addiction. Regarding his education, he graduated from Jones High School in Orlando. After that, he attended Florida State University from where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance. He received his master’s degree in business administration from Everest College. Additionally, the mayor has garnered a certificate of completion from Harvard University’s JFK School of Government, FBI National Academy, and FBI National Executive Institute.
Political career:
Before being the Mayor of Orange County, he had worked as an accountant before beginning a career in law enforcement. After certification from the J. C. Stone Memorial Police Academy, Demings joined the Orlando Police Department in 1981. Then he served as the first African-American chief from 1998-2002. From 2002, he was named Director of Public Safety for Orange County until 2008.
Following that, he ran as the chief law enforcement officer of the county for the Democratic candidate officer of Orange County in 2008. He was re-elected in 2012 and again in 2016. Demings was elected as president of the Florida Sheriffs’ Association in July 2016.

The former sheriff of Orange County is currently married to U.S. Representative Val Demings. The couple first met when he was serving at the Orlando Police Department. At the time, he was a first-year police officer when they both worked a juvenile go-kart-accident case. The duo soon fell for each other and later married in 1988.
They have welcomed three children and currently have five grandchildren. Moreover, his wife is also a political personality and serves as the U.S. Representative from Florida’s 10th congressional district since 2017. She became the first female police chief of the Orlando Police Department, serving as a captain from 2007 to 2011.
