Marie Adler is an American rape survivor and long-haul trucker based in Lynnwood, Washington. Additionally, at the age of 18 in the year 2008, the popular serial rapist Marc O’Leary attacked her in her one-room apartment. As a result, Adler was mentally devastated and physically weak after that incident. As the rape cases increased due to the serial rapist O’Leary, on 13 September 2019, Netflix launched the “Unbelievable” web series. The web series was based on the real-life story of Adler.
Adler’s rape case strongly inspired the making of this particular show. Besides, what also influenced the making of the show was the Pulitzer-winning post, ‘An Unbelievable Tale of Rape’. The Netflix show is a crime story where the actress Kaitlyn Dever plays the main character of Adler.
