Sirtis was born on 29 March 1955 in Hackney, London, England. She was born as the daughter of working-class Greek parents, Despina, a tailor’s assistant, and John Sirtis. She has not provided information on her siblings. Regarding her education, she joined Guildhall School of Music and Drama while she was still in secondary school. In 1976, she graduated from the school and joined the Connaught Theatre. In addition, she had an eating disorder for 20 years, due to the trauma of an assault that she suffered when she was three years old. She emigrated to the United States and later became a naturalized US citizen in 1986.
She started her career at the Connaught Theatre, Worthing as its member of the repertory company in 1976. After that, she appeared in supporting roles in several films and dramas. Her early dramas include 1977 ‘Raffles’, 1978 ‘Hazell’, 1979 ‘Minder’, and 1986 ‘The Return of Sherlock Holmes’. She has joined the 1996 British made-for-television movie ‘Gadgetman’ as a villainous police detective. Besides dramas and series, she has given her voice to many animated series and video games.
