Peggy Schuyler Biography, Family
Peggy was born as Margarita Schuyler Van Rensselaer on September 19, 1758, in Albany, New York. She was born to one of the prominent family of Philip Schuyler, a Continental Army General and Catharine Schuyler (née Van Rensselaer). She is the third daughter among her seven siblings.
Angelica Schuyler Church and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton were her elder sisters while Philip Jeremiah Schuyler was her brother. John Barker Church and Alexander Hamilton were her brothers in law. Peggy had a comfortable childhood as her family was a part of the wealthy Dutch landowners in Albany in the middle 1600s.
Her father Philips Schuyler was a war veteran and an esteemed individual who was selected by the Continental Congress as a Major General. He fought victoriously at the battle of Saratoga. While her mother Catharine Schuyler was a descendant of the Van Rensselaer family whose life spanned from 1734–1803.

Being a daughter of the rich family, Peggy was kept with all the love and respect possible for a woman to get during her time. Despite her rich family, she was always described as a lively and admirable personality. She was described as a person who can light up a room with their presence. She was very humane and would always think of others first. Once Peggy even risked her life her baby sibling when a raiding party made an assassination attempt on their father’s life. Upon realizing that the infant was left alone downstairs when the Schuyler sisters were trying to run for their lives, Peggy was the only person who was courageous enough to go back downstairs to rescue the baby even in the face of danger. She succeeded in saving the baby however, she barely escaped death at the hands of the raiders.

In June 1783, Peggy Schuyler tied the knot with her distant cousin Stephen Van Rensselaer III. He was much younger than her. At the time of their marriage, Peggy was 25 years while Stephen was only 19 years of age. The duo had to elope in order to be able to get married in peace. At the time Peggy’s husband was one of the richest men in all of America and a powerful Landowner.

The couple’s marriage was blessed with three children, but they lost two kids as infants. Perry’s only surviving child was named Stephen Van Rensselaer IV. He served in the New York Militia after graduating from Princeton University in 1808. He retired from the military with the tile of Major General.
Peggy Schuyler Death
As we all know, everyone has to face death sooner or later. However, Peggy Schuyler was the one who died a lot sooner than our expectation. She was suddenly ill in 1799 and with the advent of the winter of 1800, her condition worsened, and she left the world on the 14th day of March 1801 at 42 years of age.
