The reality star was born on 17 July 1957 in Brevard, North Carolina. He grew up in his birthplace along with his parents. But there is no information on his parents and siblings. Later, he moved to Wilkes Country. Talking about his education, he has completed his basic education from Atlantic Christian College. And later moved on to join Appalachian State University. From there he got a degree in Art Education.
Roberts had begun his career as a teacher and taught 25 years in Wikes County School. During his time in School, he was elected twice for the ‘Teacher of the Year’ by his peers. Also, he worked as an instructor in numerous cultural events. Later in 2012, he appeared on the reality television show ‘Mountain Men’ which is still running.

Preston was a happily married man. He had married the beautiful and understanding lady, Kathleen DuPont McGuire. He met his future wife in 1975 and didn’t waste time to marry her. After spending 42 years together, Roberts left her wife back and died in 2017.
The couple had three boys together from their marriage. The couple lived in a small log cabin on the banks of the East Fork River. Additionally, they lived over 30 years in an old church located near Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Also, had 90 acres adjoining Turtle Island.
