Joseph Glenn Herbert was born into a Filipino-American family on the 2nd of June, 1971. He grew up in Tacoma, in Washington D.C. Koy belongs to Filipino ethnicity and is of European-American descent. Jo was born to father who was in the Air Force. The family later moved to Las Vegas after he finished his high school in Tacoma, Washington.
For his education, Koy went to Spanaway Lake High School and next moved to Foss High School. Next, after moving to Nevada, he went on to join the University of Nevada. However, he soon dropped out from the institution to pursue a career in stand-up.

Koy began his career with a debut in the comic drama club in 1994. In a very short period of time, he moved from open mic night to a customary spot on the show Catch a Rising Star.

He has now made appearances alongside Jamie Foxx and has won the Showtime at the Apollo where he performed in front of troops in the USO Tour. In 2005, he performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
