Harmon was born on 2 September 1951, in Burbank, California, the United States. He was born as the youngest child of his parents Tom Harmon and Elyse Knox. His father was a Heisman Trophy-winning football player and broadcaster. His mother was an actress, model, and artist. He has two older sisters: late actress and painter Kristin Nelson and Kelly Harmon, actress/model.
Looking at his education, he completed his education from Harvard-Westlake School. After that, he completed a two-year associate degree at Pierce College, Los Angeles.
