Robert Hawking is a British software engineer working for Microsoft. However, he is more recognized as the eldest son of the brilliant English theoretical physicist and a cosmologist, Professor Stephen Hawking. This adoring son as a child would take care of his father who was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Robert is a very caring man who as his mother later described, would do things “that children really shouldn’t have to do.”

Robert Hawking: Early Life and Education
Robert George Hawking was born in the May of 1967 to parents Professor Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde Hawking. While his father was a renowned physicist, his mother was known for her journal, “Traveling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen“. Later the story was turned into the movie “The Theory of Everything”, which ended up winning an Academy Award.

Growing up, Robert was witnessing his father’s poor health conditions due to Lou Gehrig’s disease. It was a form of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Stephen struggled for the most part of his life because of it. Nevertheless, Stephen was a man of courage and his family was of massive help to him. It was Robert who was the eldest son of Hawking who did a lot to support and look after his father for the most part.
Stephen later said that Robert was the only child who showed interest in science out of the three children. He even thought that Robert would make it as a successful scientist like himself. Robert was doing ever so well and went on to study at the same college his father went to in the “University of Oxford.”

Robert is a family man who is still very close to his younger siblings. His sister Lucy is a journalist who has written novels in collaborations with Stephen. Robert’s other sibling, Timothy went to Exter University where he studies Spanish.
