Suga was born as Min Yoon-gi on 9 March 1993 in Daegu, South Korea. He was born as the younger child to two sons of supportive parents. However, there is no information on his parents or siblings. Regarding his education, he completed his education form Taejeon Elementary School, Gwaneum Middle School, and Apgujeong High School.
After hearing “Reggae Muffin” by Stony Skunk and Epik High, he built interest in rapping and decided to become a one. At the age of 13, he started to write music lyrics as well as learned about MIDI. Then he began to work in a recording studio by age 17 as a part-time job. As time passes by, he also started composing and arranging music, rapping, and performing. In 2010, he became part of the hip hop crew D-Town and produced a song ‘518-062’ commemorating the Gwangju Uprising.

Before signing as an idol with Big Hit Entertainment, he initially joined as a music producer. Eventually, he became a trainee and trained under the company for three and a half years along with fellow member J-Hope and RM. Suga released a free self-titled mixtape on 15 August 2016, via SoundCloud. He further discussed matters like his struggles with depression and social phobia on the track. Suga was promoted to a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association in January 2018.
